Like many small businesses and gyms, sisters Kayla and Hannah started Studio65 Fitness as a place where like-minded individuals can gather and work on themselves, both physically and mentally. Studio65 has been a dream of theirs, but to understand the WHY behind it, you need to understand their story... Kayla and Hannah both have Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a genetically inherited disease affecting the lungs, digestive system, and other organs through out the body. CF mainly affects the cells that produce mucus and sweat glands, but there are many ways that it affects the everyday lives of people that have it that are invisible to the eye.
Kayla was diagnosed at 16-months-old after some health complications, and Hannah was diagnosed at birth, two months later. Growing up with CF meant countless doctors appointments, visits with specialist, hospitalizations every few months, and handfuls of medication every morning, night, and with each meal. It meant that each year, lung function decreased and that a small cold could put them in the hospital for weeks at a time. Kayla remembers over-hearing her mom say she was worried Kayla wouldn't make it to her high school graduation due to the devastating hit her health had taken her sophomore year. Although Kayla was able to push through and maintain what little lung function she had left over the years, once damage is done, it is irreversible. Cystic Fibrosis presented itself a little different for Hannah. She had less respiratory issues growing up, but more digestive and growth problems than Kayla. She needed a feeding tube for more nutrition, and just the past two years, has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac disease.
In the winter of 2019, a life-saving drug was introduced to those with CF, specifically for those that carried the same gene as both Krumrey sisters. Within hours of taking their first dose, both Kayla and Hannah were able to reap the benefits of the miracle medication. Before Kayla was given the drug, she was in the hospital every three months. Now, she has not been in for IV antibiotics since September of 2019. Although Hannah has received new diagnoses, she has also been able to stay out of the hospital. Both girls have been able to live and breathe easier than ever before, and it's all thanks to a few small pills they take each morning and evening.
What was once only thought of as a dream has become reality for Kayla and Hannah as they open Studio65 Fitness to share with their friends and family. They cannot wait to take you on their journey as they help you with yours'!
Kayla Krumrey is a barre instructor and the co-founder of Studio65 Fitness. Her passion for group fitness started six years ago when she took her first barre class while living out in Southern California. After moving home shortly after, she became barre certified with Barre Above, started teaching classes, and never looked back.
When Kayla isn't in the studio with her grip socks on, you can find her watching 'New Girl', getting dinner with friends, or traveling to Greece. To her, there is so much more to health than the physical aspect of it. In order to feel her best self, she makes sure to do things and be with people that make her heart happy.
Opening a studio that creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere for everyone has been a dream of Kayla's, and with the help of her sister Hannah, they have created just that. Stop by the studio to take a class with her or to just say hi. She can't wait to see everyone!
Hannah is a fitness enthusiast and co-founder of Studio65 Fitness. Her love for all things fitness-related began a few years ago when she joined the gym in hopes for both physical and mental growth.
She started working out as often as she could, and when she began seeing results, she was hooked. Now, with a Personal Trainer Certification through NASM, she hopes to help others become passionate about fitness, just like her.
When Hannah isn't working out with you at the studio, she’s most likely in the gym, snuggled up with her fur-baby, watching ‘Friends’ on repeat, or traveling the world. With having Cystic Fibrosis, Diabetes, and Celiac Disease, she has come to realize that there is so much more to fitness than your strength and outward appearance. Her health and well-being are a few of her top priorities.
Hannah also loves being surrounded by her friends and family. Having an amazing support system helps her continue to do what she loves. She can only hope that by providing her techniques and coaching, you too, will get to experience all the benefits fitness has to offer. Come take some classes by her, her sister, Kayla, and the other wonderful instructors! She is so excited to see many familiar faces, as well as new faces, and build new relationships!
